Orca or Killer Whales are part of the Dolphin family
and are the top predator mammal in the ocean. Their
intelligence is far superior to any other dolphin and
live to 50 years or more. They run in pods of a few to
several dozen and each pod has it own language,
but they have discovered that they are bilingual
when around other pods.
Sperm Whales are the giants of the tooth whales
and can dive several thousand feet to reach their
favorite prey giant squid. They use their sonar to
find their prey and some times have to fight the
giant squid to the death. The melon on top of their
heads is the receptor for the sonar sounds and was
favored by whalers because of this large vessel full
of whale oil.
